ABC picks dates for new shows, bumps Lost to 10 p.m. in late April; Samantha Who?, Boston Legal first back.

The last of the major networks finally revealed its post-strike plans, as ABC picked return dates for its shows returning this season.

Surprisingly, the first show back with new episodes for the network won't actually be a vet. April 7 sees the first of six new episodes of Samantha Who?, the freshman comedy starring Christina Applegate as a woman suffering from amnesia...with hilarious results, of course!

The following day will be the return of legal comedy-drama-dramedy Boston Legal, which has been asked to provide a half-dozen fresh episodes. Typically, hour-long dramas take a little bit longer to produce and were expected to return later, but showrunner David E. Kelley has once again proven that he works at his own breakneck speed.

Desperate Housewives brings its catfights back on April 13 for the first of five new hour-long episodes, and will conclude with a special two-hour finale. The celebrated acting ensemble of Brothers & Sisters will resume their award-winning work on April 20 with the first of four new episodes.

Speaking of award winners, America Ferrera will be made down for Ugly Betty's return on April 24. ABC has asked for five more episodes of the comedy. Also returning that night will be the first of five new episodes of Grey's Anatomy, cementing a rock-solid night for ABC on Thursdays over the five-week period.

As speculated, the April 24 return of Grey's at 9 p.m. on Thursdays will push Lost back an hour to 10 p.m. The question is whether the move benefits or hurts Lost. Obviously 9 p.m. is a better time slot, but Lost could find new viewers from spillover from Grey's.

While new comedy Samantha Who? will get right back on its horse and create new episodes, three other new shows from ABC will not. In keeping with the strategy of proper relaunches in the fall, Pushing Daisies, Private Practice, and Dirty Sexy Money will return next season.
