Television icon Leno and O'Brien Back on Jan 2nd
Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien will restart their television talk shows on January 2, regardless of whether the ongoing Hollywood writers' strike has finished or not. Both Leno and O'Brien have been providing their laid-off staff with financial compensation since the strike began in early November. But the presenters have now announced their decision to start airing The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and Late Night With Conan O'Brien again, so as to avoid having to make non-writing staff redundant. In a statement, Leno says, "I was, like most people, hoping for a quick resolution when this began... I feel it's my responsibility to get my 100 non-writing staff, which was laid off, back to work." In his own statement, O'Brien adds, "Unfortunately, now with the new year upon us, I am left with a difficult decision - either go back to work and keep my staff employed, or stay dark, and allow 80 people, many of whom have worked for me for 14 years, to lose their jobs. An unwritten version of Late Night, though not desirable, is possible - and no one has to be fired."

Television icon One Tree Hill Returns Jan. 8 (On a Tuesday this time)
The CW's hit drama "One Tree Hill" returns for season five with a special two-hour premiere on Tuesday, January 8 (8:00-10:00 p.m. ET). Subsequent episodes will take over the 9:00-10:00 p.m. ET timeslot beginning Tuesday, January 15, following an encore presentation of "Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants." "Reaper" will return to the schedule with original episodes later in the season.

The fifth season of "One Tree Hill" will be unprecedented in the annals of television drama, as the show leaps forward four years. Season four ended as the young characters graduated high school and season five begins, post-college, four years later. Some of the characters have found success while others have failed. Some are the same, some are very different. And while their storylines will actively move forward, the show will also dip into the past, returning to incidents and events of the last four years, sometimes for a moment or a scene, other times for an entire episode.
