Movies icon Jessica Biel In a Romantic Comedy with Twilight Star Taylor Lautner
Jessica Biel has now entered the "Twilight" universe, as she's co-starring with Taylor Lautner in the new romantic comedy "Valentine's Day," set to hit theaters early next year. So, now that Biel and Lautner have collaborated on the rom-com, could we see the actress set foot in Forks, Washington? She wouldn't rule it out.

"Well, I'm clearly familiar with the films. I haven't read the books, but I haven't seen any of the films yet so I'm not that familiar — I know the idea of what it's about," she told MTV News. "I mean, maybe [I'd be in the next 'Twilight' film]. That would be lovely. I am not opposed to playing a vampire."

Movies icon Legendary Feats
Will Smith could well have invoked the famous line of Muhammad Ali, the man he once played in a movie: "I am the greatest." For Smith, who performs a veritable one-man show in the movie I Am Legend, set a box-office record for December over the weekend as the movie debuted with an estimated $77.4 million. The previous record had been set by The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, which took in $72.6 million in its 2003 debut. (Warner Bros. observed that the results also represented the biggest success it has ever had with a "non-franchise" film.) Box office gurus, who were way off in their predictions on Friday, could only marvel at the Legend-ary results: $59.2 million on Friday and Saturday. And Warner Bros.' estimate that it took in an additional $18.2 million on Sunday could very well prove to be too conservative. Meanwhile, 20th Century Fox's Alvin and the Chipmunks also surpassed expectations, taking in about $44.7 million. The family film clobbered New Line's The Golden Compass, which wound up with just $9 million after opening last week with a disappointing $25.8 million, a fraction of its cost of more than $200 million to produce and market. The success of Legend and Alvin pushed box-office receipts 36 percent above those for a year ago.

Movies icon The Golden Compass is...broken?
Gold, it turns out, may not have been the best ingredient for making a compass. Although New Line Cinema reportedly spent $250-300 million to make and market The Golden Compass, the movie earned only $26.1 million in its opening weekend. Most analysts had predicted an opening of between $30 million and $40 million -- and even that would have been low for a movie carrying such a huge budget. Other studios had expected such a big opening for Compass that they went out of their way to give it a wide berth, not opening another film against it in wide release. The disappointing opening was attributed to mediocre reviews and efforts by the Catholic League, the nation's largest Catholic lay group, to persuade moviegoers to stay home on the grounds that the movie might encourage children to read His Dark Materials, the book trilogy on which it is based and which the League claims espouses atheism. The film, nevertheless, landed at the top of the box-office list, deposing Enchanted which held the crown -- or, in this case, the tiara -- for the previous two weekends. Sales for the top 12 films totaled $73.2 million, down 10 percent from the comparable weekend a year ago. "It's been a tough marketplace in terms of revenue and attendance," Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers, told Bloomberg News. "Despite the fact that there have been some high- quality films out there, the great ones aren't doing great box office."
